DIYBYX

The race season is well under way, and it has been our experience that it’s right around now when annoying little mechanical problems start to rear their heads. We see a lot of bikes come through the door these days that need just some minor tweaks (fixing a creak here, a brake adjustment there), and while we are always more than happy to tackle these tasks, we know there are plenty of you out there who would love to do these fixes yourselves.

We’re all about DIY here at the studio (teach a man to fish and all that…) so it should come as no surprise that we offer workstand rental at different levels to suit your needs:

$25/hr

$150/month (up to 15 hours)

$400/year (unlimited)

Call us for details, or stop by for a little Do It Yourself action!

Cat. 5 Tune $85

Our basic level tune up includes checking all fasteners for appropriate torque, adjusting the shifting and brakes to your liking, truing the wheels, lubricating the drivetrain, cables and pivot points on the brakes and derailleurs. Followed by a test ride to make sure everything works the way it is expect to.

Cat. 1 Tune $175

A clean bike is a happy bike. A Cat. 1 knows that you don’t show up to a race with a dirty, greasy machine and expect to keep your sponsors happy. Take our Cat. 5 Tune-Up and include a thorough frame cleaning and drivetrain degreasing. Most bike shops offer a cleaning service, but not like ours. We don’t just clean the frame, we polish it too. We removed the drivetrain components from the bike, soak them in solvent to remove all traces of road grime from the tiny places you can’t even see. Then lube the pivot points and re-install. Installation of any new parts is included in the Cat. 1 Tune-Up.

Elite Overhaul $400

We take your bike down as far as it can go. Don’t worry, we take measurements to insure that we put everything back in the right spot. We don’t just take your rear derailleur off and clean it, we take it apart and clean it along with every other part on the bike. Bearings, Cables and Housings, Bar Tape, Chain, Cassette and Tires are replaced as necessary.

Pro Bike Build $275-$350

Frame threads are prepped. Bottom bracket is chased and faced. Dropouts are aligned. Then we install the components to manufacturer specification and your preferences. You choose the handlebar tape along with Cable style and Housing color. Even subtle details like Cable ferrules and Handlebar finishing tape are customized to your liking. Hey, it’s your bike. You want it to be unique, don’t you?

Carbon Repair

Bicycles are not indestructible – especially carbon fiber bicycles. BikeCPR is an NYC-based carbon frame and accessory repair service started by our friend Alex Bremer (see one of our recent posts about him here). We work closely with BikeCPR on any frames that arrive in our shop needing some TLC. Avoid costly long distance shipping and potential out-of-warranty service with this local resource.
